Charging times

DC charging times for our electric vehicles.

Charging times vary depending on the size and state of charge of your battery as well as charging capacity of your battery system and the output capacity of the public charging station, as well as the ambient temperature. Depending on the type of charging station you have access to, Hyundai electric vehicles give you a range of flexible DC fast charging and/or ultra-fast charging possibilities.

Cables & Plugs

Explore the various types of charging cables.

Electric car charging cables aren’t all the same. When pulling up to public charging stations, you will come across different kinds of plugs that provide different kinds of voltages and power outputs. Some stations have several options and your selection depends on what you need at the moment and the charging technology in your car.
  1. The Icon of a type 2 regular AC charging cable plug.

    Type 2 cable.

Just like wallboxes, most public charging stations work with alternating current (AC) and require the same Type 2 cable. The on-board-charger then converts the alternating current (AC) into direct current (DC). The charging speed (maximum charging capacity per hour) is determined by the power of the charging station, usually between 11 and 43 kW (3-phased) or your car's on-board-charger, usually 7.2 kW (1-phased) or 10.5 kW (3-phased) – whichever has the lower kW.

  1. The Icon of a CCS or Combo 2 fast charging DC plug.

    CCS type 2 cable.

Fast-charging stations use direct current (DC) and usually have a permanently connected Combined Charging System cable (CCS or Combo 2). These cables are similar to Type 2 cables but have two additional contacts to allow high-power DC fast-charging. The charging speed is not limited by your car's on-board-charger which is completely bypassed (it doesn't need to convert from AC to DC). CCS cables can transmit up to 350 kW but few charging stations deliver that kind of speed.

Easy fit. New labels show plug compatibility.

As of March 2021, new EU labels make it easier for EV drivers to identify compatible recharging options. For example, if your EV has a “B” label and the charging station has a “B” label, they are compatible. On the vehicle, the symbol is black. On the charging station, the symbol is white.

Travelling across borders with an EV.
